Post and Core ReinforcementRoot canal therapy requires the removal of a large amount of the internal portion of a tooth to gain access to the root canals and to remove infected materials. If the tooth has had previous restorations (fillings) or has extensive caries (decay), it may need internal reinforcement to ensure that the root and the crown portions of the tooth are connected together adequately. A post is cemented in to the middle of the tooth root, and the core, which is a material that replaces the missing portion of the crown, is placed on top of the post. With recent advancements in the strength of these post and core materials, as well as the adhesive that bonds these materials to the tooth, the original strength of the tooth can be regained. This treatment allows optimum potential for the tooth to continue to serve in your mouth for many years. Post & Core ReinforcementFiber Core Post |
