Temporary Crowns and Bridges

You have just received a plastic restoration that will serve you for a short period of time until the laboratory makes the final restoration. The following guidelines about this temporary restoration will be helpful to you.

Chewing

  1. The temporary cement requires about one-half hour to set. Please do not chew during this period of time.
  2. Temporary restorations are not very strong and may occasionally break or come off. If so, call us and we will replace them. If you cannot contact us or if it's over the weekend, go to a pharmacy and get some Fixodent. Replace the temporary on your tooth with some Fixodent holding it in place. This denture adhesive will retain the temporary restoration until you can see us. Do not leave the temporary restoration out of your mouth, as the teeth will move and the final restoration will not fit. Please have the temporary restoration recemented within a few days or the tooth may develop sensitivity or pain.
  3. Certain foods will stick to the temporary restoration. This will not happen when the final restoration is cemented. Try to avoid chewing on the temporary restoration.

Brushing and Flossing

Brush the area thoroughly but gently. Always remove the floss from between the teeth by pulling it out sideways and not lifting it up, as this could pull the temporary crown off the tooth.

Color

The color of the plastic temporary does not resemble the color of the final restoration.

Shape & Size

The shape and size of the plastic temporary does not resemble the final restoration.

Tooth Sensitivity

Temporary restorations may allow saliva or food to leak onto the tooth underneath. Sensitivity to cold, hot or sweets is not uncommon. This sensitivity will not be present with your final restoration.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us.
